Preface
The English Spark series, designed for Classes 1 to 8, introduces students to a rich selection of
literature by both Indian and global writers.
This series has been thoughtfully conceived, planned, and pedagogically developed in alignment
with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Frameworks (NCF)
2022 & 2023. Each unit is thematically organised, follows a multidisciplinary approach, and is
rooted in communicative teaching methods. The focus is on building essential language skills—
listening, speaking, reading, and writing—that connect directly to real-life situations.
To ensure holistic learning, every unit of the series is enriched with the following subsections:
1. Let’s Take Off – A warm-up activity that introduces the theme of the unit and prepares
learners for the upcoming text.
2. I Can Sing / I Can Read – A carefully curated mix of stories (prose, drama, and comics) and
poems linked to the theme, encouraging joyful reading and comprehension.
3. Word Treasure – A learner-friendly vocabulary section that helps students understand
new words and expressions without constant dictionary use.
4. Assess Yourself – Engaging activities that evaluate reading comprehension in meaningful
ways.
5. Say It Right – Exercises to build vocabulary, phonics, pronunciation, and awareness of
prefixes, suffixes, synonyms, antonyms, and punctuation.
6. Language Ladder – Structured grammar activities that gradually strengthen language
proficiency.
7. Let’s Speak / Listen and Discover / Writing Workshop – Practical speaking, listening, and
writing tasks that provide ample opportunities for expression and creativity.
8. Thinking Hat – Activities designed to develop critical, creative, and logical thinking skills.
9. Building Better Me – Value-based lessons that nurture good character, resilience, and life
skills.
10. Go Beyond – Cross-curricular connections that broaden learning across subjects.
11. Facilitator’s Tip – Handy suggestions for teachers to make stories and poems more
interactive and enjoyable through varied classroom activities.
With these unique features, the English Spark series aims to make language learning not only
effective but also enjoyable and engaging. We warmly welcome suggestions to make the series
even more learner-friendly.
