A cardinal number tells us ‘how many’. Cardinal numbers are also known as counting
numbers. Because they show quantity.

But ordinal numbers tell us the order of things in a set. First, second, seventh and so on.
Ordinal numbers do not show quantity. They only show the rank or position.
