Kinds of Adjectives
Read the following sentences.
My cherry tree is very special to me.
They were small bright red cherries.
There were three cherries left.
That year the monsoon came early.
There are many trees in the forest.
Which tree did Raki grow?
The highlighted words in the above sentences are adjectives.
Adjectives are describing words that describe nouns or pronouns.
There are different kinds of adjectives.
1. Possessive adjective : used to express possession or ownership.
For example : their, its, whose, my.
2. Adjective of quality : used to describe the quality.
For example : brave, strong, heavy, black.
3. Adjective of quantity : used to describe the quantity or amount of something.
For example : few, many, several, all
4. Adjective of number : used to tell the specific number or order.
For example : one, two, first, last.
5. Demonstrative adjective : used to refer specific noun. They can be used to indicate
either proximity or distance.
For example : this, that, these, those.
6. Interrogative adjective : used to ask questions about nouns.
For example : which, whose, what.
