Tell me how?
What makes things appear to be backwards in a mirror ?
When light reflects off the
objects we are able to see
them. Light reflects twice when
we look at a mirror. It bounces
off the object onto the mirror
and back to our eyes. Things
appear backwards because of
the way light travels.
Mirrors show us things
which appear backwards,
this phenomenon is called
Lateral Inversion.
There are curved mirros as well, namely
Concave and Convex mirrors. You will learn
about them in higher classes.
