Vedic Maths is based on sixteen sutras or principles. These principles are general in
nature and can be applied in many ways. In practice many applications of the sutras may
be learned and combined to solve actual problems. Here we will see how to do simple
arithmetic using vedic mathematics.
Using VERTICALLY AND CROSSWISE for multiplying numbers just over 100, you can
multiply faster than a calculator.
Say you want to multiply two numbers 10X and 10Y (X and Y are any number between 0 and 9)
Then the answer will be in two parts
First Part 10X +Y =10(X+Y)
Second Part is X multiply Y
See this example for clear understanding of this sutra:
103 x 104 = 10712
The answer is in two parts: 107 and 12,
107 is just 103 + 4 (or 104 + 3),
and 12 is just 3 x 4.
• Similarly 107 x 106 = 11342
107 + 6 = 113 and 7 x 6 = 42
Again, just for mental arithmetic, Easy ! Isnt’it ?
Try a few:
1. 102 × 107 =
2. 106 × 103 =
3. 104 × 104 =
33 — 5
