So Ruchi, her father, and her mother took the morning train to Delhi. Ruchi
loved the journey by train.
There were many things to see at the station— hawkers, people selling
and buying things, people shouting and pushing each other, and people
carrying huge bags. She loved seeing the green fields and trees from the
window of the train. She even saw a flock of sheep and a herd of elephants
with long trunks that touched the ground.
The train reached Delhi in the evening. Uncle Karanpal was at the station to
meet them. On the way, Ruchi saw many cars, buses, and autorickshaws.
And what noises they made–ting-a-ling, ting-a-ling, beebeep, beebeep,
honk honk, honk honk! Ruchi did not like all the noise.
‘‘There is so much noise in your city, Uncle,’’ She said. Her uncle shook his
head sadly. ‘‘Yes, this is called noise pollution,’’ he said. ‘‘It is not a good
thing. It hurts our ears.’’
On the way home, Ruchi saw all the houses decorated with lights. They
looked very pretty. She could hear loud music coming from somewhere.
Ruchi remembered that it was Diwali that day.
