‘‘What happened?’’ Grandma asked Narayan as she hugged him. ‘‘No one plays
with me grandma,’’ cried Narayan.
The highlighted words in the above lines are pronouns. Pronouns are words
which are used in place of nouns.
There are different kinds of pronouns.
1. Personal pronouns are used to substitute proper names.
(a) Subject pronouns are pronouns that perform the action in a sentence.
Example : I, you, we, he, she, it, they.
(b) Object pronouns are pronouns that receive the action in a pronoun.
Example : me, us, him, her, them.
2. Possessive pronouns are pronouns that are used to show possession
(ownership). Example : mine, yours, his, hers, theirs, its.
A. Change the underline noun to a subject pronoun (I, you, he, she, it, we,
they).
1. Ronit likes hockey.
2. Frankie and Farez are friends.
3. Shubham and I are students.
4. Anu eats sushi.
5. The bicycle is blue.
6. The children are happy.
7. Alex and I are from Canada.
8. The men are in the kitchen.
B. Choose the correct possessive pronouns.
1. He lives in (her/hers) house. 2. The new car is (their/theirs).
3. Is this cup (your/yours)? 4. That coat is (my/mine).
5. That red bike is (our/ours). 6. Are these phones (their/theirs)?
7. I met (their/theirs) mother. 8. Don’t stand on (my/mine) foot!
