Prepositions and Prepositional Phrase
Read the following sentences. Remember
• Wilson was walking towards the market in the town. A group of words that make
• Wilson was chained and kept in a ship. sense but not complete
• Soldiers put an apple on the child’s head. sense are called phrases.
As you have already studied that in, on, etc. are words that connect nouns or pronouns
to other words in a sentence, such words are called prepositions.
But highlighted group of words begin with a preposition. Phrases that begin with a
preposition are called prepositional phrases. They provide additional information.
A. Fill the correct prepositions.

over, on, between, up, below, under, towards
1. Mary and Poppy were careful as they walked the high rock wall.
2. They were followed by their two friends who trailed .
