5 In the Forest

A story about two boys, who saved their favourite tree from

being cut down.

Swami and Sajan lived in a village.
The village was near a forest. They often went through the forest

and rested under a Jamun tree on hot summer days. Sometimes
they liked to play hide-and-seek, and sometimes they climbed the

tree.

The tree was the home of many birds. Swami and Sajan loved

watching the birds bring twigs to build their nests.

Once a year, the tree had purple fruits. Swami and Sajan named the

tree Jamuni, meaning ‘the purple one’.
