One Sunday morning, Swami and Sajan saw three men. They were
having tea at Kaka’s tea-stall.
The men had three iron axes with them. Later, one of the men had
asked Kaka ‘‘How far is the forest from here?’’ Another men asked,
‘‘Can you tell us the way to the forest?’’ Swami and Sajan looked at
each other.
‘‘What will these men do with the axes?’’ Swami said to Sajan. Soon,
they heard a noise–thuk-thuk-thuk. The men were cutting down
branches of a tree in the forest.
‘‘Stop that!’’ shouted Swami. ‘‘Why are you cutting down these
trees?’’ ‘‘Go away, boys,’’ shouted one of the men. Swami and Sajan
felt they had to do something before the men could harm Jamuni.
They quickly ran to their teacher’s house. The teacher was very
upset when she heard their story. She rang the school bell loudly to
call the villagers.
