He gave him jam to eat.
The Country Mouse was
enjoying jam when the door
suddenly opened.
The cook had come to get
some flour. ‘‘Run!’’ said the
City Mouse.
They ran as fast as they could
into a little hole.
The Country Mouse was
shaking with fear. ‘‘Don’t worry, the cook will go away,’’ said the
City Mouse.
After the cook had left, the two mice went back into the kitchen.
The City Mouse gave him some cake to eat. The Country Mouse
liked the taste of the cake.
Suddenly, there was a loud ‘‘Meow!’’
fear — a feeling caused by
danger of pain
