their mothers but she had only a hand-made card to give her. Suddenly, she
felt the card was too shabby and silly. But she had nothing else to give! If
only she had some money, she could have bought her mother a few flowers
at least.
When she got home, she did not say a word to her mother. She went straight
to her room and shut the door. She took out the card and gamed at it. Yes
indeed, it looked cheap and shoddy. Why couldn’t she give her something
decent? Was she an ungrateful daughter? She had such a loving mother
who deserved the best but she had nothing to give her in return. Tears
welled up in her eyes and she tried to control herself.
The clock struck half-past seven. Her father called out. ‘‘Get ready. Tomorrow
is Mother’s Day, so let us start the celebrations by taking your mother out
for a dinner treat this evening.’’
Soon the three of them were in a restaurant having a delicious dinner.
Somya pretended to be happy, but her heart tugged at her from inside.
Tomorrow was a special day and she had nothing to give her mother.
